COVID-19 Update – April 2nd

To all Golden Life Residents, Families, & Staff,

I would like to start by thanking you for doing your part by participating in our new measures and helping us prevent any cases of COVID-19 in our Villages. These are uncharted waters, our staff are working tirelessly to keep your families safe and their effort is commendable. Our efforts are working and to date we have had no cases of COVID-19 in any of our Villages.

Our teams are doing our very best to keep it that way. We have implemented policies to limit exposure such as the requirement to self-isolate for 14 days after any out of Village travel for residents. We understand that these additional measures will need navigating. Residents will continue to be allowed to walk on the property, and smokers will be assigned a designated smoking area on the property. Any time spent off property will trigger the 14 day self-isolation.

This week we have also limited all activities within the Village to no more than five residents to adhere to our provincial requirements. We know that social activities and recreation are important and are working to create alternative methods of delivery. This includes a fleet of tablets which will be delivered to our sites this week to facilitate communication with your loved ones and new recreation best practices to assist our teams in keeping everyone happy, and healthy.

As part of this direction from the province we are also required to move all dining room service to room service. This new dining service will be in place by the end of this week.

This is a benefit for you and your loved one as we will be checking on them daily.

We also are encouraging families to reduce the frequency of deliveries to limit exposure to residents, staff, volunteers, and family members who are in public purchasing those supplies to ensure their loved ones are well stocked. As careful as our families, staff, and residents are when cleaning our delivered products, each item that comes into our building from an outside source introduces risk.

As part of this new effort to limit deliveries we are now offering an optional breakfast and lunch as a room service for our independent living and assisted living residents. There are several benefits to this program:

  • Residents are guaranteed to receive three meals a day.
  • The meals are overseen by a dietitian and prepared by our professional staff who are screened daily and follow the highest safety protocols.
  • We will check on these residents three times daily and will monitor for symptoms, make sure they are eating properly, have been drinking enough, have a quick chat, and take temperatures when requested.

If you or your loved ones are interested in the new meal programs please contact your Community Manager.

Families are always welcome to make deliveries, but this program will guarantee your family member is eating healthy and will minimize contamination risks.

We do not take these decisions lightly, we know this will change the way we operate day-to-day, but for the health of all we must come together to keep COVID-19 out of our Villages.

Warm Regards,

Celeste Mullin
Vice President
